Pursuing Excellence Workshop

The PSSP programme cannot achieve its objectives unless it is embraced and adopted by a critical mass of educators in each of the schools.  The ‘opportunity for change’ needs to be embraced by more than the school’s leadership. One of the programme’s challenges is to make the concept of excellence in education visible and tangible, to illustrate what it is, and to celebrate it.

PSSP hosts an annual one day ‘pursuing excellence’ workshop in the third quarter of each year at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre. The goal is to motivate educators in the programme by hosting guest speakers that are exciting, stimulating and challenging. The workshop attracts some 200 educators from the served high schools and their feeder primary schools (30 educators per cluster) and immerses them in small group discussions about the challenges that they face in their own schools.

The plan is to stimulate ideas and creativity to address these challenges and to build momentum and mobilise them with a call to action. At the 2010 workshop five guest speakers and 23 facilitators committed their time and expertise to the programme which ended with a celebratory dinner, jazz band and awards ceremony to recognise teachers in each of the schools that have displayed notable commitment and excellence in teaching.
